Ep. 130 Jim Jolliffe | DOP Pompeii Out of Time

 

Jim Jolliffe started his career in film working his way through the ranks of the camera department, working on films and TV commercials. After learning composition and storytelling from many years as a Camera Operator he progressed to become a Cinematographer. Jim quickly established his own look shooting hundreds of TV commercials. His cinematic documentary style earned him many accolades and awards in the world of TV commercials. His work has taken him all around the world, from shooting with the eagle hunters of the Altai mountains in Mongolia, to living with a Masai Mara tribe in northern Tanzania, to learning arctic survival skills from the Sami tribes people of northern Lapland. As well as shooting commercials Jim has recently moved into also shooting more long form work, collaborating with Nation Geographic to shoot the first season finale of ‘Limitless’ and the stand alone documentary ‘A Road Trip To Remember’, both starring Chris Hemsworth and Executive Produced by Darren Aronofsky.  Jim again has teamed up with Director and Showrunner Tom Barbor-Might, National Geographic and Disney+ to shoot the groundbreaking series ‘Pompeii - Out of Time’ starring Tom Hiddleston.

The hours can be long, the demands unrelenting and the individuals determination to not let the rest of the crew down is a major part of what makes us the greatest film crews on the planet. EP. 128 Follow The Money | Hollywood's Real Fight (Pt. 1)

A new format for The Film Gods. Couldn't get a guest on for April so I sat down with Claude (yes I call him Van Damme) to dig into what's actually happening in our industry right now. Hollywood is in the middle of another labour fight — WGA already signed, SAG-AFTRA back at the table on April 27th, DGA up in May, all three contracts expire June 30th. AI is the headline. But the more I looked, the more I think the real fight is somewhere else entirely. Closer to home, the Bectu AD branch are mid-dispute with Pact over the new UK rate card landing May 1st. Same fight, different continent. This is Part 1. Part 2 lands next month — Bollywood, China, Critterz, and the grandchildren question.
